NMC Calls Government Medical Faculty for 2026-27 College Inspections
NMC Seeks Govt Medical Faculty for Inspection Pool

In a significant move to streamline the evaluation of medical education institutions, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has put out a call for government medical faculty to form a dedicated panel of inspectors. The initiative, spearheaded by the NMC's Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), aims to create a robust Assessor Pool for conducting inspections across the country's medical colleges.

Building a Panel for Upcoming Inspections

This development is directly linked to the forthcoming assessment cycle for the Academic Year 2026-27. The MARB issued a formal public notice on December 22, 2025, followed by a communication to all Government Medical Colleges and Institutions on December 26, 2025. According to the notice, the primary purpose of this pool is to engage qualified faculty members as assessors for inspections related to both undergraduate and postgraduate course applications for the 2026-27 session.

The scope of work for this assessor pool is not limited to these annual inspections. The board has clarified that the same pool of experts may be utilized for other assessments mandated under the National Medical Commission Act, 2019. This includes surprise visits to colleges and the evaluation of various documents and reports submitted by medical institutions.

Eligibility and the Role of College Heads

The NMC has set clear eligibility criteria for faculty members who wish to be part of this national effort. Faculty members who are eligible to serve as postgraduate guides are invited to apply. Their eligibility must be confirmed as per the Section 5 of Teachers Eligibility Qualifications, 2022 and the Sections 16 and 17 of the Medical Institutions (Qualifications of Faculty) Regulations, 2025.

The Deans and Principals of all Government Medical Colleges have been entrusted with a critical responsibility in this process. They have been directed to ensure the notice reaches every eligible faculty member. This must be done through personal circulation and by displaying the information prominently on college notice boards.

Duty Status, Remuneration, and How to Apply

For faculty members selected as assessors, the MARB has outlined favorable terms. The time spent traveling and the actual day of inspection will be officially treated as on-duty periods. All related expenses, including travel and lodging, will be covered by the National Medical Commission, which will also provide a remuneration for the duty.

Eligible and interested faculty must act promptly. They are required to submit their willingness through a dedicated Google Form link shared in the official notice. The board has set a strict deadline for submission: within 15 days from the date of the initial notice (December 22, 2025).

This structured approach to creating a centralized assessor pool marks a step towards bringing more uniformity and expertise to the vital process of medical college inspections, ultimately aiming to uphold the standards of medical education in India.
