A fast-track special court in Kurukshetra has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh in a kidnapping and sexual assault case involving a minor girl under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Details of the Case
According to the Kurukshetra district attorney, a complaint was lodged at Ladwa police station on March 9, 2023. The complainant stated that his minor daughter went missing from home around 11 pm on March 8, 2023, without informing anyone. The police registered a missing person case and launched an investigation.
Investigation and Recovery
During the probe, the minor girl was recovered, and her statement was recorded before the court. She was also provided counseling through the district Child Welfare Committee. Based on her statement and the counseling report, the police added charges under Section 328 (causing hurt by poison, etc., with intent to commit an offense) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the POCSO Act.
Trial and Conviction
On May 29, 2026, after regular hearings in the fast-track special court, the Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) convicted the accused, Rahul, on the basis of witness testimonies and evidence presented during the trial. The court sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2 lakh. The case highlights the swift justice provided under the POCSO Act for crimes against minors.
