Goa Records Slight Decline in Road Accident Fatalities in April

Panaji: Goa witnessed a slight reduction in fatalities due to road accidents and fatal accidents during April 2026. According to the traffic cell of Goa police, fatal accidents decreased by 4% and the number of persons killed in road accidents dropped by 7% compared to the same period last year.

Up to the end of April, a total of 851 accidents were reported in the state, marking an increase of 54 cases from 797 in the previous year. A fatal road accident is defined as a traffic accident resulting in death, while road deaths quantify the number of fatalities from such accidents. The rise in fatal accidents is attributed to increased traffic movement during the tourist season, as well as the government's decision to reduce enforcement by withdrawing police personnel responsible for issuing challans for traffic violations.
