Sambalpur Zoo Takes Measures to Protect Animals from Extreme Heat
Sambalpur Zoo Protects Animals from Extreme Heat

Sambalpur: With temperatures soaring above 42 degrees Celsius in western Odisha, the Sambalpur Zoo has implemented a series of measures to shield its animals from the extreme heat. These efforts help maintain the temperature inside the premises nearly 10 degrees lower than the outside environment.

Cooling Infrastructure and Water Management

The zoo, which is Odisha's second zoological park and was previously known as a deer park, features 17 covered enclosures equipped with thatch and bamboo screens. Water sprinkling is conducted twice daily, at 11 am and 3 pm, to cool the surroundings. Additionally, a continuous water supply and water pools have been ensured to help animals cope with the scorching conditions.

Dietary Adjustments and Cooling for Big Cats

Dietary changes have been introduced in line with summer requirements, and coolers have been installed specifically for the big cats to provide relief from the heat.
