Bihar Concludes Ayushman Manthan Workshop Series with Focus on Healthcare Quality
Patna: The Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI), in partnership with the Bihar Swasthya Suraksha Samiti (BSSS), successfully organized the concluding session of "Ayushman Manthan" on Monday. This event marked the final workshop in a comprehensive five-part series that has systematically covered all districts across the state, aiming to enhance the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).
Strengthening Hospital Engagement and Service Transparency
The primary objective of these workshops has been to fortify collaboration with hospitals and improve the quality, efficiency, and transparency of healthcare services under the AB-PMJAY scheme. According to the organizers, an impressive 92% of private-empanelled hospitals participating in the scheme have now received specialized training through this initiative, ensuring better adherence to guidelines and patient care standards.
Approximately 1,000 key stakeholders attended the event, reflecting widespread engagement from the healthcare sector. Participants included doctors, owners of both private and public hospitals, representatives from medical colleges, civil surgeons, and district-level health officials. This diverse attendance highlights the growing importance and reach of AB-PMJAY, which offers health coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per family annually, providing a critical safety net for millions.
Bihar's Leading Role in AB-PMJAY Implementation
Health Minister Mangal Pandey emphasized Bihar's significant progress in rolling out the scheme, noting that the state has emerged as one of the frontrunners in India. He revealed that Bihar ranks third nationally in Ayushman card generation, with a remarkable 4.16 crore cards created to date. Additionally, the state holds the 12th position in hospital empanelment, with around 1,230 hospitals actively participating in the program.
More than 32 lakh patients have benefited from treatment under AB-PMJAY in Bihar, with total expenditures reaching Rs 4,784 crore. These figures underscore the scheme's substantial impact on improving healthcare accessibility and affordability for the state's residents.
Collaborative Efforts and Future Directions
BSSS Chief Executive Officer Shashank Shekhar Sinha welcomed attendees and stressed the necessity of ongoing collaboration between the State Health Agency and healthcare providers. He emphasized that such partnerships are crucial for optimizing service delivery and ensuring that beneficiaries receive high-quality care without financial hardship.
ADRI Member Secretary Ashmita Gupta highlighted that the Ayushman Manthan series is designed to strengthen coordination among stakeholders, ultimately enhancing service delivery and health outcomes. She expressed confidence that these workshops will lead to more efficient healthcare processes and better patient satisfaction across Bihar.
Technical Sessions and Recognition of Excellence
The workshop featured in-depth technical sessions covering essential topics such as standard treatment guidelines, quality documentation practices, and strategies for fraud mitigation. These sessions provided healthcare professionals with practical knowledge and tools to improve their operations under the AB-PMJAY framework.
In a gesture of appreciation, around 20 hospitals were felicitated for their outstanding performance and commitment to the scheme's objectives. This recognition aims to motivate other institutions to strive for excellence in healthcare delivery, fostering a culture of quality and accountability within the state's medical community.
