A team of specialist doctors at the Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Haji Abdulla Mother and Child Government Hospital in Udupi successfully performed a major surgery to remove an 8-kilogram uterine fibroid from a 44-year-old woman who had been suffering from abdominal pain for over a year.
Complex Surgery Performed by Expert Team
The intricate procedure was carried out by a team of gynecologists including Dr. Shashank Kini, Dr. Jasmine, Dr. Kavitha, and Dr. Amrutansh, along with anesthesiologists Dr. Suryanarayana and Dr. Raj Gopal Bhandary. Nursing officer Rakshitha and operation theatre assistant Sangeetha also played crucial roles in the successful operation.
Patient's Condition and Diagnosis
The patient had been experiencing persistent abdominal pain for nearly a year and had initially sought treatment from private doctors. However, as her condition did not improve, she decided to visit the government hospital for further evaluation. Upon examination, the specialist doctors discovered that her abdomen had enlarged to the size of a full-term pregnancy, and it appeared to contain a fluid-filled mass. Subsequent ultrasound and CT scan examinations revealed a large tumor in the uterus.
Surgery Decision and Procedure
Following detailed consultations with district surgeon Dr. H. Ashok, the medical team decided to perform the surgery at the hospital. Acting on his guidance, the team successfully conducted the operation on May 25, removing the massive tumor.
