Bloomsbury India Expands Harry Potter Universe with New Pocket Potters Series

This weekend marked a significant moment for Harry Potter enthusiasts in India as Bloomsbury India officially unveiled two new titles in its innovative Pocket Potters series. This expansion introduces fresh illustrated companion books specifically crafted to welcome younger readers into the enchanting world of Harry Potter.

Accessible Guides for New Generations

The Pocket Potters series is strategically positioned as compact and highly accessible guides that delve into pivotal moments, memorable quotations, and lesser-known details from the beloved series. Through engaging illustrations and concise short-form text, these books serve as an ideal entry point for new readers while simultaneously captivating longtime fans with their distinctive visual design and collectible format.

Remarkably, it has been 29 years since the first Harry Potter book was published in 1997, and 25 years since the inaugural film premiered in 2001. The world was introduced to a young wizard who would ultimately transform publishing, cinema, and popular culture forever, evolving into a global phenomenon that continues to capture the imagination of readers and viewers across multiple generations.

Sustained Growth and Enduring Popularity

With seven iconic books published between 1997 and 2007, and eight cherished films released between 2001 and 2011, Harry Potter remains one of the most beloved book series worldwide. Data reveals extraordinary growth in the Indian market, with annual Harry Potter sales increasing nearly seven times from FY13–14 to FY25–26. Lifetime sales have reached an impressive milestone of over 3 million copies, demonstrating the series' remarkable longevity and widespread appeal across all age groups.

In recent years, the Harry Potter series has entered a sustained growth phase, recording consistent mid to high year-on-year increases, including a notable 9.6 percent growth in FY25–26. Approximately 35 percent of total sales now originate from online channels, complemented by robust pan-India distribution across offline markets.

Special Editions and Continued Discovery

The continued discovery of Book One in the series serves as a powerful entry point, driving new reader acquisition year after year. Special editions such as MinaLima, House Editions, Anniversary Editions, and Illustrated Editions continue to experience sustained demand. These editions beyond the original seven-book series perform exceptionally well, fueled by a robust gifting economy and strong collector interest alongside first-time readership.

Official Launch and Community Celebration

Rahul Srivastava, Managing Director of Bloomsbury India, expressed his enthusiasm for the new series, stating, "Harry Potter has been an integral part of childhood, friendship, and imagination for millions of readers in India. With Pocket Potters, we aimed to create something warm and welcoming that invites readers of every age, especially young readers, to connect with the characters they love or meet them for the very first time."

Illustrated by a diverse range of international artists, the Pocket Potters series is instantly recognizable and highly collectible, with each illustrator contributing their unique interpretation to the wizarding world.

To commemorate the launch, Bloomsbury hosted an exclusive invitation-only celebration in New Delhi on Friday evening. The event brought together booksellers, retailers, authors, bloggers, influencers, and dedicated members of the Potter fan community. Guests participated in themed games and quizzes while viewing a curated display of the publisher's complete Harry Potter catalogue. This gathering formally marked the Pocket Potters series' debut in India, highlighting the franchise's continued resonance within an evolving publishing landscape.
