During his regular #SundaysWithAmaal question-and-answer session, a fan asked Mallik if he was aware of the loss of Zubeen Garg, whom the fan referred to as a "true gem" of Assam. Mallik's response was heartfelt. "Yes. I just got to know 2 days ago and was very disturbed by it!" he tweeted. Legendary playback singer Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19, 2025, under mysterious circumstances. The 52-year-old was swimming in the sea in Singapore when the incident occurred. He was rushed to Singapore General Hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.

However, in a significant development, a Special Investigation Team's findings have led to legal action. Four accused have been booked under murder charges.
