Chahal on moving on after divorce from Dhanashree Verma

Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has publicly addressed his life following his divorce from actor and dancer Dhanashree Verma, stating emphatically that he has closed that chapter and moved forward. The cricketer, who finalised the separation in March last year, spoke about the intense public scrutiny and his current emotional state in a recent interview.

Closing a Personal Chapter

In a candid conversation with Mashable India, Chahal revealed the emotional toll of the separation but insisted on looking ahead. The divorce was finalised in March 2023, drawing significant media and public attention. Chahal, however, is firm in his desire to not dwell on the past.

"It was a chapter in my life, which is over now. I've left that space now. I don't want to remain stuck there," the cricketer stated. He emphasised that there is no lingering bitterness between him and his former wife. "I'm happy in my life, she's happy in hers. What is one going to get by making someone miserable?" he added, highlighting a mature approach to their separation.

Addressing the Alimony Speculation and Social Media Hints

The divorce proceedings were magnified in the public eye, especially after reports claimed Chahal was asked to pay an alimony of Rs 4 crore. Following these reports, the cricketer appeared to make subtle references to the matter on his social media platforms.

He once shared, and later deleted, an Instagram Story that commented on a Delhi High Court order related to alimony. On another occasion, he seemed to allude to the issue during a playful Instagram exchange with fellow cricketer Shikhar Dhawan, further fueling public curiosity.

The 'Be Your Own Sugar Daddy' T-Shirt Controversy

Chahal also found himself in the middle of an unexpected controversy when he was photographed wearing a "Be your own sugar daddy" T-shirt during court proceedings. This fashion choice sparked a significant online backlash, with a section of social media users unfairly targeting Dhanashree Verma and labelling her a "gold-digger."

While Chahal did not directly address this specific backlash in his latest interview, his overarching message was clear: he is keen to put the entire episode behind him. He clarified that for him, emotional closure came swiftly after the legal process concluded. "It was done and dusted right after stepping out of the court," he asserted, drawing a firm line under the past.

By speaking openly, Yuzvendra Chahal aims to shift the narrative from speculation to closure, focusing public attention back on his professional career as a key player for the Indian cricket team while acknowledging a personal journey that has now been firmly laid to rest.
