Adivi Sesh Weighs In on Dacoit's Box Office Journey and Release Timing
The love-action thriller Dacoit, starring Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur, continues to perform positively at the box office, despite facing stiff competition from the blockbuster Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge. Originally scheduled for release on March 19, the film was strategically delayed to April 10 due to the overwhelming buzz surrounding its competitor.
Box Office Numbers and Competitive Landscape
Dacoit opened strongly, earning approximately Rs 22 crore net in its opening weekend. However, it could not surpass the record-breaking run of Dhurandhar 2, which has maintained its dominance even into its fourth week. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Adivi Sesh addressed the timing of the release and whether a further delay might have resulted in a stronger opening.
"Honestly, who can say?" Sesh remarked, reflecting on the multiple factors that influenced the film's performance. "I mean, had Dhurandhar not been around, had there not been a two-month IPL this time, or had Kantara and Vikram not been released day as Major..." he said, drawing parallels to his earlier film Major, which also navigated tough competition but ultimately succeeded.
Gratitude and Honest Intent Amid Criticism
Despite the box office clash, Adivi Sesh expressed deep satisfaction with Dacoit's performance. "But the destiny for this film has been beautifully positive, and I'm just grateful now," he stated. Addressing early criticism that labeled the film a blockbuster prematurely, Sesh defended the team's approach. "To them it feels, 'How can they?' But at the end of the day, I'll tell you one thing: everything about our film has come from an honest space," he added.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Dacoit has collected over Rs 43.89 crore worldwide as of its sixth day, indicating a steady and respectable run.
