The Malayalam film and theatre industry is mourning the loss of veteran actor and director E.A. Rajendran, who passed away at the age of 71. He breathed his last at his residence in Pattathanam, Kollam, after a prolonged period of treatment for age-related health issues.
Early Life and Artistic Journey
E.A. Rajendran was a native of Thrithallur in Thrissur district and began his artistic journey during his school days at Thrissur UP School, where he actively participated in drama performances. After completing his college education, he pursued formal training at the prestigious National School of Drama in Delhi, graduating with first rank in acting. He further enhanced his skills with a television course at the Film Institute in Pune.
Notable Film and Television Career
Rajendran appeared in approximately sixty films throughout his career, portraying both villainous and character roles in several superhit productions. His early appearance was in V.R. Gopinath's 'Greeshmam', though he later faced a challenging period without opportunities in the film industry. He made a remarkable comeback with the classic film 'Kaliyattam', directed by Jayaraj.

Earlier in 2025, Rajendran addressed concerns about his health in an interview with YouTube channel Mainstream One. He clarified that his noticeable weight loss was intentional and medically advised.
"I reduced weight as per the doctor's advice to manage my sugar levels. Age is also catching up, and I need to stay careful. My son is acting now, and we are also running a production company. His mortal remains will be kept for public homage in Kollam before being transported to his hometown in Thrissur. The funeral rites are scheduled to be held the following day at his residence in Thrithallur, Thrissur, where family, friends, and admirers will pay their final respects to the accomplished artist.
