Suniel Shetty's Emotional Vow: Won't Watch Border 2 Until It Hits Rs 500 Crore
Suniel Shetty's Vow: No Border 2 Until Rs 500 Crore

Suniel Shetty's Emotional Pledge for Son Ahan Shetty's Border 2

Ever since the highly anticipated war drama Border 2 hit theaters, audiences have been flocking to cinemas across the country to witness the cinematic spectacle. However, one notable figure has deliberately chosen to stay away from watching the film despite having deep personal connections to it. Veteran actor Suniel Shetty, who famously portrayed Assistant Commandant Bhairon Singh Rathore in the original 1997 classic Border directed by J.P. Dutta, has maintained a deliberate distance from the sequel.

A Father's Supportive Presence at the Premiere

At the star-studded premiere event held last week, Suniel Shetty made sure to mark his attendance to show support for his son Ahan Shetty, who shares screen space with industry heavyweights like Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, and Varun Dhawan in the film. Yet, in a touching display of paternal devotion, Shetty chose to remain outside the screening hall while his wife Mana Shetty, daughter Athiya Shetty, and son-in-law, cricketer KL Rahul, watched the movie alongside Ahan.

Now, the seasoned actor has opened up about the emotional vow he made for his son's career milestone, revealing the heartfelt reason behind his decision to abstain from watching the epic war drama.

The Heartfelt Reason Behind Staying Away

As reported by Mid-day, Suniel Shetty recalled the premiere evening with a warm smile, stating, "I sat outside the theatre for three and a half hours, meeting people and soaking in all the compliments." While some might find this gesture surprising, many parents will undoubtedly relate to the actor's emotional reasoning.

Shetty disclosed that a profound wish to fully experience his son's success led him to make this poignant promise: "I had said from day one that I wouldn't watch 'Border 2' until it crossed a worldwide collection of Rs.500 crore. I had kept a mannat for Ahan. So far, I haven't watched a single frame. Don't get me wrong, it's not about arrogance."

Confidence in the Film's Success

The proud father expressed strong belief that his wish for his son's cinematic triumph will be fulfilled. "I am hoping it will cross Rs 500 crore. Mana loved 'Border 2'. Everybody who has watched the film has appreciated Ahan's work. I am happy that after 'Dhurandhar', another Hindi movie has worked brilliantly," he shared with evident paternal pride.

Shetty emphasized that he has always been supportive of Ahan's career choices, stating, "I have always been proud of Ahan and his decisions. He strongly believed that 'Border 2' was the film he wanted to do."

Future Plans for the Special Screening

Suniel Shetty has already begun planning for the celebratory day when he finally watches the film. "I will watch it with Ahan, his friends, and my family. I will also take Sunny paaji, Varun, and all of them with me. It will probably be the second time for them, but it will be my first. I don't know how many times I will watch it after that," he revealed, painting a picture of a joyous family celebration.

Border 2's Box Office Performance

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Anurag Singh's directorial venture Border 2 experienced a significant dip during its first week in theaters. After crossing the impressive ₹100 crore mark over the opening weekend, the film earned approximately ₹20 crore net in India on its fifth day, which was its first Monday. This pattern suggests the movie gained substantial momentum from the Republic Day holiday and the extended weekend period.

On Tuesday, early estimates indicated a further decline, with collections touching around ₹13 crore. With these figures, Border 2's total box office collection in India after six days stands at approximately ₹213 crore, showing strong performance despite the expected weekday drop.

The film's journey at the box office continues to be closely watched by industry analysts and fans alike, as it progresses toward the emotional milestone that will allow Suniel Shetty to finally experience his son's performance on the big screen.
