Bollywood veteran Govinda's niece and actress Ragini Khanna has shared startling new details about the 2024 incident where the actor accidentally shot himself, firmly dismissing ongoing rumours of foul play by revealing the massive police response it triggered.
The Shocking Night Recalled
In a recent interview, Ragini Khanna, daughter of Govinda's sister Kamini Khanna, recounted the distressing moment they received the news. On January 3, 2026, she described how her mother got a call stating "Chichi mama has gotten shot." The family was initially shocked, learning shortly after that it was a self-inflicted accidental injury.
Ragini explained her deliberate decision to delay going to the hospital. "I had a very emotionally reactive response. So, I decided to go a little later to prevent creating more tension with my reaction. I went 3 hours late. My mother and brother went immediately," she said, highlighting her attempt to manage the crisis calmly.
Massive Police Presence Silences Rumours
Addressing persistent speculation from fans who doubted the accidental nature of the shooting, Ragini presented compelling evidence of the official investigation's scale. She revealed that approximately 200 police officers were stationed at the hospital itself, with an additional 50 cops deployed outside Govinda's house to ascertain the facts.
"How can you escape that kind of a situation if it is not genuine? I have full faith in our police. They have done their due diligence and they got satisfactory results," Ragini asserted. She argued that if another person had been involved, escaping after harming such a prominent figure would have been impossible given the intense scrutiny.
She also pointed to Govinda's swift recovery as further proof, noting, "He was fine in a month’s time, he stood on his feet in a month’s time."
Govinda's Own Account of the Accident
Following the incident in 2024, Govinda himself held a press conference to explain the circumstances. The actor stated he was preparing for a show in Kolkata early in the morning, around 4:45-5 AM, when the firearm fell and discharged accidentally.
"Woh giri aur chal padi (the gun fell and misfired). I felt a jhatka (I was shocked) and when I saw… there was a fountain (of blood)," he had described. When questioned about handling a loaded gun, Govinda attributed it to haste and his carefree nature. "Main thoda sa mast raha karta hoon... I am a bit sahaj (easy-going). I didn’t think something like this would happen. But one should be careful," he advised, hoping others would learn from his experience.
The actor's candid explanation, combined with his niece's recent revelations about the extensive police probe, aims to put an end to the swirling rumours and confirm the incident as a tragic accident.
