A video capturing two girls dressed in Khalsai bana with hawks perched on their heads as they walked across the Golden Temple plaza has gone viral on social media. The incident occurred amidst the observance of Shaheedi week, a period of mourning and remembrance for Sikh martyrs.
Viral Video Sparks Discussion
The video, titled 'The Kaurs carry the Hawk along with them: High Spirits, Chardi Kala,' was widely shared on Thursday, drawing attention from devotees and the general public. In the footage, the two girls are seen accompanied by a third girl, also wearing the Khalsai bana but without a hawk. They walked on a carpeted floor within the plaza, creating a striking visual that quickly circulated online.
SGPC Denies Involvement
Major Singh, the general manager of the Golden Temple, stated that he was unaware of the incident. He clarified that neither the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) nor the Golden Temple administration had organized any such event. The SGPC has not issued a formal statement regarding the video.
Cultural Significance
The Khalsai bana is a traditional attire associated with the Khalsa order in Sikhism, symbolizing bravery and devotion. The presence of hawks, which are often linked to falconry and nobility, added a unique element to the display. However, the unauthorized nature of the act has raised questions about appropriate conduct within the sacred premises.
The video has sparked mixed reactions online, with some praising the girls' spirit and others expressing concern over the use of animals in a religious setting. As of now, no official action has been taken, and the identities of the girls remain unknown.
