Gaurav Gera's Emotional Throwback: 1998 Letters Reveal Humble Beginnings Before Dhurandhar Fame
Bollywood actor Gaurav Gera is currently basking in the success of his latest cinematic venture, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, where he delivers a compelling performance as Mohammad Aalam. The film, directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Ranveer Singh in the lead role, has earned him widespread critical acclaim and audience appreciation. However, this recognition arrives after years of unwavering persistence and significant personal struggle in the competitive entertainment industry.
A Nostalgic Glimpse Into the Past
In a deeply nostalgic social media post, Gaurav recently offered fans a poignant look at his early career days by sharing handwritten letters he penned to his parents back in December 1998. These letters were written shortly after his courageous move from Delhi to Mumbai to pursue his acting dreams, capturing the raw emotions and challenges of that transformative period.
On Sunday, the actor posted images of two letters from that era, accompanied by a heartfelt caption reflecting on his journey. "This letter to my parents – 3rd Dec 1998 .. less than a month that I moved to Mumbai this is 28 years ago .. so no emails, Letters.. of course after that lots tv, some films, ad films, musical play, Radio, TikTok, Reels .. been a lovely journey with ups and downs .. God has been kind.. but this Dhurandhared .. dunno what future holds .. but I wanna thank my 23 year old self for staying hopeful and Ma Pa for endless support #DhurandharTheRevenge," he wrote emotionally.
Candid Accounts of Struggle and Hope
The letters provide an unfiltered window into Gaurav's initial aspirations and the financial uncertainties he faced. In one letter, he expressed, "Dear Mumma and Papa, How are you guys? I’m really well over here. Nothing has materialized on the money front for me but I hope to do well soon. There’s a lot of work here compared to Delhi."
He further detailed his daily routine and professional engagements, stating, "In the mornings, I meet various people for work and evenings have my rehearsals. The play is a musical 'Man Of La Mancha.' It’s a very well-known musical and it’s a prestigious group to be associated with."
Modest Living and Future Optimism
Gaurav also described his humble living arrangements in Mumbai, highlighting the practical challenges of starting anew. "The place I stay in is a small cottage and will be easy on the pocket also. Thousand rupees if me and Rajesh share we can give 11 months’ rent in a go also. Other expenses include telephone, electricity, gas and water bills and food," he wrote.
Despite the hardships, his letters radiated optimism and determination. "Mumma and Papa, the future is bright but I still have a lot to learn. It does take time to know the right people, so please understand. I’ll be heavy on your pocket, but trust me, not for long," he assured his parents, showcasing his resilient spirit.
Heartfelt Reactions from Industry Peers and Fans
The emotional post resonated deeply with colleagues and admirers alike. His Dhurandhar 2 co-star Aditya Uppal commented, "bhai yar It got me teary man @gauravgera," while actor Naveen Kaushik noted, "Aur tab pata na tha ki aapki kahani itni khuubsoorat ho jayegi ek din." Karan V Grover added, "Great journey gera … Happy for u . Lage raho."

Fans were equally moved, with one user remarking, "Finally your work is getting its due credit," and another celebrating, "What a journey!" A third fan described the letters as "Wow this is priceless."
This touching revelation underscores the often-unseen struggles behind Bollywood success stories, reminding audiences of the perseverance required to achieve cinematic acclaim like that seen in Dhurandhar: The Revenge.
