The makers of the highly anticipated war drama Border 2 have released an emotional new song, 'Ghar Kab Aaoge', which serves as a heartfelt recreation of the legendary track 'Sandese Aate Hain' from the 1997 classic Border. The launch was a grand affair, held on January 2, 2026, at the historic Longewala post in Jaisalmer, with Border Security Force (BSF) jawans as guests of honour.
A Star-Studded Launch at a Historic Venue
The launch event saw the presence of the film's lead stars, including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty. The choice of Longewala, a site of a famous battle during the 1971 war, added profound patriotic significance to the unveiling. The song, which has been eagerly awaited by fans for months, aims to capture the same emotional depth as the original, which was sung by Sonu Nigam and Roop Kumar Rathod and composed by Anu Malik with lyrics by Javed Akhtar.
A New Musical Trio Takes the Stage
For this 2.0 version, the baton has been passed to a new generation of musical talents. The vocals for 'Ghar Kab Aaoge' are provided by the powerhouse trio of Arijit Singh, Vishal Mishra, and Diljit Dosanjh. The music has been recomposed by Mithoon, while the poignant new lyrics have been penned by Manoj Muntashir Shukla. The audio was released first, followed by a 3-minute 10-second video that brings the song to life.
The video narrative powerfully depicts the longing of soldiers stationed far from home. It opens with Varun Dhawan's character reading a letter from home, visibly emotional, before rallying his unit into an energetic dance sequence. Diljit Dosanjh is seen in a similar moment of camaraderie with his Air Force unit. In contrast, Sunny Deol's portrayal is more somber, showing him with tears in his eyes as he reads his letter. The video also offers glimpses of the romantic subplots, featuring the leads with their on-screen partners: Sunny with Mona Singh, Diljit with Sonam Bajwa, Varun with Medha Rana, and Ahan with Anya Singh.
Controversy and Clarification
The film, directed by Anurag Singh and produced by JP Dutta and Bhushan Kumar, was not without its share of off-screen drama. Last year, Border 2 found itself in controversy following the release of Diljit Dosanjh's Sardaar Ji 3, which featured Pakistani actor Hania Aamir. This came after Indian film bodies imposed a ban on Pakistani artists post the Pahalgam terror attack. Speculation was rife that Diljit might be dropped from the project.
However, producer Bhushan Kumar addressed the issue head-on, assuring everyone that Diljit remained an integral part of Border 2. He clarified the situation but also stated that he would not collaborate with the singer-actor on future projects after this film. The movie is all set for a nationwide theatrical release on January 23, 2026.
