In a significant move to bridge the skill gap in India's booming tech sector, the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) has joined forces with ed-tech platform Masai. The collaboration aims to launch a suite of online certification programs designed to create a pipeline of job-ready professionals in high-demand, artificial intelligence-driven domains.
Programs Tailored for Emerging Tech Domains
The partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Masai and IIT Roorkee's Electronics & ICT Academy (E&ICT Academy). The academy will be responsible for designing and delivering the programs. The curriculum will focus on cutting-edge areas that are shaping the future of industry, including Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DS-AI), Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI-ML), Software Engineering with AI, and the highly sought-after field of Prompt Engineering.
These programs are strategically crafted to be inclusive, targeting not just working professionals seeking to upskill but also entry-level learners. A key highlight is the accessibility for individuals from non-technical backgrounds, opening doors for career changers. The pedagogy will blend live, interactive instructional sessions with extensive hands-on, practical learning to ensure concepts are firmly grasped and applicable.
Portfolio Development and IIT Roorkee Certification
A cornerstone of each program will be a comprehensive capstone project. This project is designed to push participants to apply their newly acquired knowledge of technology and AI to solve real-world business problems. The outcome will be a professional portfolio that serves as tangible proof of their skills to potential employers, significantly enhancing their job market prospects.
Upon successful completion of the coursework and assessments, participants will be awarded a certificate from the E&ICT Academy, IIT Roorkee. Adding a unique on-campus experience, learners will have the optional opportunity to participate in a two- to three-day campus immersion program at IIT Roorkee. This immersion is slated to include project presentations and the formal distribution of certificates and grade sheets.

Professor K. K. Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee, emphasized the institute's commitment to national capacity building. He stated that IIT Roorkee places a strong emphasis on skill development in emerging digital and AI-driven technologies as part of its responsibility in higher education. He noted that through the E&ICT Academy, the institute continues to strengthen industry-aligned training that marries academic rigor with practical application, supporting the nation's digital and innovation goals.
Echoing this sentiment, Prateek Shukla, CEO and Co-Founder of Masai, highlighted the practical benefits of the collaboration. He said this initiative enables the delivery of programs that combine academic depth with practical learning, aiming to help learners build meaningful portfolios and enhance their preparedness for technology roles in an increasingly AI-centric job market.
