Second NEET Aspirant's Tragic Death in Patna Hostel
Patna faces another heartbreaking incident as a 15-year-old NEET aspirant died by suicide in her hostel room. The girl, originally from Aurangabad district, had been living in Patna for six months to prepare for the medical entrance exam.
Father Alleges Harassment by Minors
Her father filed a police complaint stating that two minors had been harassing his daughter. He claimed this harassment deeply disturbed her and forced her to take this extreme step. Police investigation revealed one minor had been in regular communication with the girl.
Police took immediate action based on the father's complaint. They produced the juvenile accused before the Juvenile Justice Board. The board sent the minor to a reform home for rehabilitation.
Timeline of the Tragic Day
The incident occurred just two days after the girl returned to her hostel following a holiday at home. Her father spoke with her on January 4, 5, and again on the morning of January 6.
CCTV footage from the hostel showed her brushing her teeth at 10:52 AM on January 6. Around 1 PM, the hostel operator called her father with the devastating news about her suicide.
Family members rushed to the hostel immediately after receiving the information. They then went to Patna Medical College and Hospital where police had taken her body. Doctors at the emergency ward informed them she had already been declared dead.
Police Investigation and Findings
A police officer confirmed the postmortem examination established death by hanging. The officer stated that further investigation remains underway to uncover all details surrounding this tragic case.
The father's written complaint detailed his daughter's distress about harassment from two youths living near her hostel. He emphasized how this constant harassment affected her mental state in the days leading to her death.
Context of Ongoing Protests in Patna
This second incident emerges during ongoing protests in Patna over another NEET aspirant's death earlier this month. A 17-year-old girl was found unconscious in her hostel room and later died during treatment.
That case involved a postmortem report stating sexual violence could not be ruled out. Authorities arrested the hostel building owner and formed a special investigation team to handle that matter.
These back-to-back tragedies involving young medical aspirants have created a political storm in Bihar. Students and citizens continue protesting, demanding better safety measures and support systems for those preparing for competitive exams away from home.
