Sevasadan Nagpur's 100-Year Plan: Girls' Military School & Nursing College
Nagpur's Sevasadan to launch girls' military school

As it approaches a landmark century of service, Nagpur's esteemed Sevasadan Education Society has unveiled a bold blueprint for growth, headlined by the establishment of a pioneering military school for girls and a new nursing college. The ambitious expansion, set to unfold on a newly acquired six-acre plot near Hingna, signals a transformative phase for the institution as it kicks off its centenary celebrations from January 2.

A Vision for Women in Defense and Healthcare

In an exclusive discussion, society president Kanchan Gadkari revealed that the proposed girls' military school is a deeply held dream, designed to foster discipline, leadership, and defense-oriented career paths among young women. This initiative aligns with a noticeable shift in interest; while the society's existing National Defence Academy (NDA) coaching academy initially attracted mostly boys, it now has 20 girls among its 80 students, reflecting a growing aspiration among women to serve the nation.

Vice-president Bapu Bhagwat emphasized that expansion has become imperative as the current three-acre campus in Dhantoli has reached its saturation point. The new institutions at Hingna are just the beginning. "Apart from the military and nursing schools, several benefactors are offering land to Sevasadan to help us grow. Land has also been offered in Pauni in Bhandara district," Bhagwat stated.

Academic Upgradation and Community Outreach

The centenary vision extends beyond new buildings. The society is actively engaging with industrialists and corporate entities to sign memoranda of understanding (MoUs), ensuring job-oriented training and employment avenues for its students. On the academic front, Sevasadan plans to introduce postgraduate programs and research centers in the near future.

Further developments in the pipeline include:

  • Evening certificate courses aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP).
  • Establishment of a National Service Scheme (NSS) unit.
  • Adoption of five villages under Gram Vikas (village development) initiatives.
  • Setting up skill enhancement centers for broader community impact.

From Humble Beginnings to a Centenary Powerhouse

Reflecting on Sevasadan's journey, Kanchan Gadkari traced its roots to a small school in Dhantoli. Today, it operates a robust educational ecosystem comprising a state board and CBSE high school, a junior college, and a degree college. Gadkari stressed the importance of evolution, noting, "Educational institutions must update themselves in terms of syllabus, infrastructure & teaching methods. We aspired to introduce CBSE education for years & finally achieved it." She also highlighted the advantages of their centrally located campus, which is considered safe and well-connected, with the Nagpur Metro further improving accessibility.

As Sevasadan steps into its next hundred years, its expansion plans represent a significant commitment to modern, relevant, and empowering education in the heart of India, particularly for young women aspiring to break new ground in fields like defense and healthcare.
