In an innovative move to connect young minds with democratic processes, Punjab Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has announced a special mock legislative session exclusively for students. This educational initiative will take place on November 26, coinciding with Constitution Day celebrations across the nation.
Venue Shift to Historic Anandpur Sahib
The temporary Punjab Vidhan Sabha at Anandpur Sahib will host this unique student session instead of the regular assembly building in Chandigarh. This location holds additional significance as students will have the opportunity to pay homage to the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur during their visit.
Speaker Sandhwan emphasized that this initiative represents a crucial step toward bridging education with democratic procedures. By experiencing firsthand how legislative bodies function, students will develop a deeper understanding of India's parliamentary system and constitutional values.
Student Participation and Role Distribution
Selected participants from government schools across Punjab will have the extraordinary opportunity to assume various leadership roles within the mock assembly. Students from Class XI and XII will represent all 117 constituencies throughout the state, mirroring the actual composition of the Punjab Legislative Assembly.
The role-playing exercise will see students taking on the responsibilities of key positions including the Chief Minister, Speaker, various ministers, and opposition members. This comprehensive representation ensures that participants gain exposure to multiple perspectives within the democratic process.
Public Access to Assembly Complex
In related developments, the specially constructed Punjab assembly complex at Bhai Jaita Ji memorial will remain accessible to the public until November 29. Punjab Minister Harjot Singh Bains confirmed that citizens can visit this temporary structure, which was originally established for holding a special session marking the 350th martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur.
This extended public access complements the student mock session by providing broader community engagement with legislative processes. The combination of student participation and public accessibility demonstrates Punjab's commitment to strengthening democratic awareness among all segments of society.
The November 26 mock assembly session represents a significant educational opportunity for young Punjabis to understand the workings of their state government while honoring both constitutional values and historical martyrs who shaped India's diverse cultural heritage.
