TNSTC Bus Electronic Display Hacked to Show Actor Vijay's Political Party Name in Trichy
In a startling security breach, unidentified miscreants allegedly hacked into the motherboard of a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) electronic route display board and uploaded content displaying the name of actor Vijay's political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. The incident occurred in Trichy, raising significant concerns about the vulnerability of public transport systems to unauthorized access.
Viral Video Sparks Widespread Curiosity and Security Alarms
A video of the TNSTC bus showing the party name on its LED route board went viral on social media, quickly capturing public attention and igniting debates over security protocols. TNSTC officials have confirmed that this was not a mere technical glitch but a deliberate act carried out by unidentified individuals. In response, a formal police complaint has been lodged to investigate the breach and identify those responsible.
Details of the Targeted Bus and Its Route
The affected vehicle is a BS6 model TNSTC bus with registration number TN 45 M 4853, operating under the Trichy zone of the Kumbakonam division. It typically plies between Trichy and Cumbum via Dindigul and Theni. On Sunday morning, as the bus departed from Cumbum towards Trichy, the LED route board abruptly began displaying "Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam" in English while the bus was in motion.
Public Reaction and Immediate Official Response
Members of the public who witnessed the display were left stunned and confused, with many questioning whether a government-operated bus was improperly promoting a political party. An onlooker recorded the incident on a mobile phone, and the video rapidly spread across various social media platforms, amplifying the controversy.
Following the uproar, transport department officials promptly initiated an inquiry. The department stated that once the issue was noticed, the motherboard of the route display board was immediately replaced. Correct route details were reloaded when the bus halted at Manapparai, restoring normal operations.
Enhanced Security Measures and Ongoing Investigation
In light of this incident, the department has instructed the company supplying electronic route boards for TNSTC buses to implement robust safeguards to prevent such breaches in the future. Speaking to TOI, D Sathish Kumar, general manager of the Trichy zone for TNSTC, emphasized, "We have lodged a complaint with the police seeking action against the culprits."
Police investigations have revealed that the viral video was recorded near Vaiyampatti, close to Manapparai in Trichy district. Authorities are now intensifying efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for this unauthorized intrusion into the public transport system, highlighting the critical need for enhanced cybersecurity in public infrastructure.
