Gujarat Government Announces Major Expansion in Higher Education with New Colleges and Jobs

The Gujarat government made a significant announcement on Monday, revealing plans to establish 16 new government colleges and introduce new academic streams in eight existing institutions. This move is set to create approximately 117 teaching and non-teaching positions across these colleges, addressing long-standing demands for educational infrastructure in the state.

Addressing Educational Demands Through State Budget Session

During the state Budget session, the government granted approval for these new colleges, which will be located in both tribal and non-tribal areas. This decision comes after repeated public calls for new government colleges, as no such institutions had been sanctioned in recent years. The expansion aims to enhance access to higher education and boost employment opportunities in the education sector.

Details of New Colleges and Locations

In Ahmedabad, a new arts, commerce, and science college will be set up in Hathijan. Other non-tribal areas set to receive new colleges include Khanpur, Una, Dhanera, Maliya, Ranpur, Dahegam, and Gadhshisha. For tribal regions, new colleges have been approved in Banaskantha, Valsad, Mahisagar, Dahod, and Chhota Udepur districts, along with two in Surat and one in Navsari.

New Academic Streams and Recruitment Plans

The government has also sanctioned new academic streams in two existing colleges in non-tribal areas. The recruitment process for the 117 posts is expected to begin soon, with officials specifying the number of vacancies for each college. The sanctioned positions include principal, assistant professor, librarian, clerk, senior clerk, lab assistant, junior clerk, and peon.

Specifics on Job Openings and Recruitment Rules

Notably, the Hathijan college alone will have 11 posts, including four assistant professors. Across all institutions, 13 peon posts will be filled through outsourcing. In a key update to recruitment policies, the government announced that prior experience as an assistant professor will be considered under the new rules, potentially benefiting experienced educators seeking these roles.

This initiative marks a proactive step by the Gujarat government to strengthen the state's educational framework, providing more opportunities for students and job seekers alike.
