The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has rolled out a special initiative to support students gearing up for their crucial board examinations. On Tuesday, the civic body inaugurated its annual healthy snacks programme, specifically designed for Class X and Class XII pupils studying in its schools.
Mayor Inaugurates Nutritious Initiative
The programme was officially launched by Mayor R Ranganayaki, with Education Committee Chairwoman N Malathi also in attendance. This scheme aims to provide a nutritional boost to students during the demanding exam preparation period.
A senior corporation official explained that the core objective is to enhance students' dietary intake, thereby helping them concentrate better on their studies. The snacks are meticulously planned to be nutritious, organic, and protein-rich, moving completely away from junk food and biscuits.
Protein-Rich Menus for 50 Days
The programme is structured to run from Monday to Saturday for at least 50 days leading up to the exams. Snacks will be distributed daily between 4:00 PM and 4:30 PM.
Authorities have prepared seven different rotating menus, all focusing on healthy ingredients. The offerings include both solid and liquid items, with a strong emphasis on millets and pulses. On the inaugural day, students were treated to groundnuts, black channa, and badam milk.
Widespread Impact Across City Schools
In total, 1,895 Class X students and 1,765 Class XII students are set to benefit from this welfare measure. The programme covers pupils across 28 corporation high schools and higher secondary schools in Coimbatore.
The food supply chain has been entrusted to a private catering service hired by the corporation. Officials noted that this initiative has yielded positive outcomes in previous academic years.
By ensuring students receive wholesome food after school hours, the corporation aims to reduce fatigue and hunger pangs. This support is expected to allow scholars to focus more effectively on their revision. The ultimate hope is that this nutritional backing will translate into improved performance in the upcoming public board examinations.
Teachers in the corporation schools have welcomed the move, stating that it directly supports both the physical health and academic success of their students.
