CID Launches Investigation into Agriculture University Question Paper Leak
The Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Telangana has initiated a formal inquiry into allegations of a significant question paper leak at Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agriculture University (PJTAU). This action follows an official complaint lodged by university authorities, highlighting concerns over academic integrity and potential exam fraud.
Discovery and Initial Findings
The issue first came to light during a surprise inspection conducted by the vice-chancellor and dean of PJTAU at a local agriculture college in Jagtial. Upon reviewing CCTV footage, officials identified suspicious activities that pointed towards student involvement in the leak. A preliminary inquiry revealed that the question paper was initially compromised at a college in Warangal, subsequently spreading to students across other districts.
University officials stated, "Based on the footage, an internal inquiry was ordered. We then came to know that a few students had conspired and managed to illegally access a question paper set for the third-year first semester exams." The leaked document was circulated among students via WhatsApp, facilitating widespread access.
Key Suspect and Financial Transactions
Further investigation identified J Karthik, a junior assistant at the Warangal Agriculture College, as a central figure in the leak. Officials reported that Karthik, responsible for photocopying question papers, allegedly took photographs of a paper using his mobile phone. He then offered to share these images with students, who collectively pooled funds and transferred 1.40 lakh rupees to him in exchange for the pictures.
In their complaint to the CID, university officials expressed suspicions that Karthik might have been involved in similar offences previously, indicating a potential pattern of misconduct. CID officials have since brought Karthik in for questioning, though no arrests have been made as of yet.
