CBSE Calls Schools to Join Global Letter Writing Contest
The Central Board of Secondary Education has issued a fresh circular. It asks all affiliated schools to participate in the 55th Universal Postal Union International Letter Writing Competition for Young People. This event will take place in 2026. The Department of Posts is organizing the competition across India.
CBSE wants schools to share competition details with their students. Schools must also organize the contest at their own level. This initiative aims to engage young minds in a meaningful activity.
A Theme That Reflects Modern Life
This year's theme focuses on a critical aspect of today's world. Students must write a letter to a friend. They need to explain why human connection remains vital in our digital age.

Objectives of the Competition
According to the CBSE circular, the competition has several key aims. It intends to nurture creativity in young people. The event will also help strengthen their writing and composition skills.

How the International Selection Process Works
The Universal Postal Union's International Bureau coordinates the competition globally. Each member country first selects its best national entry. That entry then proceeds to the international stage.
From all the international entries, the UPU will choose three winners. These winners receive Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals. They also get certificates and additional prizes.
The Gold Medal winner might get a special opportunity. The UPU could offer a visit to its headquarters in Berne, Switzerland. Alternatively, the organization may provide another prize. The UPU will make the final decision on this matter.
Special mention certificates will be awarded to select participants as well.
Selection and Prizes Within India
In India, the Department of Posts will manage the competition. It will conduct the event at two levels: Circle and National. The best three entries at each level will receive cash prizes and certificates.
The highest-ranking national entry holds special significance. It will become India's official submission to the UPU International Competition. This offers students a remarkable chance to represent their country on a global platform.
Language Options for Participants
Students enjoy flexibility in language choice. They can write their letters in English. Alternatively, they may use any language listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.

What CBSE Schools Must Do Now
CBSE has given clear instructions to schools. They must organize the competition in coordination with Nodal Officers. These officers come from respective circles or regions.
The list of Nodal Officers will be shared separately. It will also appear on the official India Post website. Schools should actively inform students about this opportunity. They must motivate young learners to take part in the contest.
