The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially initiated a major nationwide recruitment drive to fill thousands of vacant teaching and non-teaching positions in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs). This large-scale process, launched via an online application portal, aims to tackle the long-standing staffing crisis that has plagued these centrally administered schools.
Wide Range of Vacant Positions Announced
The recruitment notification covers a comprehensive spectrum of roles essential for school operations. On the academic front, vacancies have been announced for leadership positions like Principal and Vice-Principal, as well as for Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs), Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs), and Primary Teachers (PRTs). The drive also encompasses numerous non-teaching posts critical for support functions, including Librarian, Music Teacher, Physical Education Teacher, Art Teacher, Assistant Section Officer, Junior Secretariat Assistant, and Stenographer.
Officials have provided specific numbers for key teaching categories. For Post Graduate Teachers, 615 vacancies in KVs and 634 in JNVs have been identified under the unreserved category, which includes backlog positions. The need for Trained Graduate Teachers is even greater, with 1,153 posts vacant in KVs and 1,230 in JNVs. These figures highlight the significant scale of the current shortage.
Recruitment Process and Application Details
The selection of candidates will be conducted through a structured process. The first stage will be a Computer-Based Test (CBT). Successful candidates will then proceed to subsequent rounds, which may include skill tests or personal interviews, depending on the requirements of the specific post. CBSE has released a detailed notification outlining all crucial information for applicants, including the eligibility criteria, age limits, examination scheme, and the application timeline. All interested candidates must submit their applications online within the stipulated window; no other mode of application will be accepted.

This recruitment drive comes as a direct response to years of concern and criticism regarding the severe staffing shortages in KVs and JNVs. These schools primarily serve the children of transferable central government employees and students from rural and remote regions, making quality staffing paramount.
