The Government of Bihar has officially launched the admission process for the upcoming 2026-27 academic year in its network of residential schools dedicated to girls from Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Extremely Backward Classes (EBC). The Backward Classes and Extremely Backward Classes Welfare Department made the announcement on Friday, opening the doors for applications to 39 plus two high schools located across all districts of the state.
Seat Availability and Application Details
According to a formal press release, the department is now accepting online applications for vacant seats in classes VI through IX. A significant number of positions have been identified statewide, with the highest concentration of opportunities available for students entering Class VI.
A total of 2,159 seats are up for grabs. The breakdown is as follows: 1,560 seats in Class VI, 336 seats in Class VII, 114 seats in Class VIII, and 149 seats in Class IX. The application portal became active on the day of the announcement and will remain open for submissions until February 9, 2026.
Eligibility Criteria and Selection Process
To ensure a transparent and merit-based selection, the state government will conduct a common entrance examination. This objective-type test is scheduled for March 1, 2026, and will span two hours.
The exam will assess candidates on five core subjects: Hindi, English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science. Each subject will carry 20 marks, making the total score 100.
Prospective students must meet specific eligibility conditions:
- The combined annual income of the applicant's parents or guardians must not exceed Rs 3 lakh.
- Age limits are strictly defined as of April 1, 2026. The permitted age ranges are:
- Class VI: 10 to 13 years
- Class VII: 11 to 14 years
- Class VIII: 12 to 15 years
- Class IX: 13 to 16 years
Important Dates and Next Steps
The department has outlined a clear timeline for the entire admission procedure. After the application window closes in February, admit cards will be available for download from mid-February 2026.
Following the entrance exam in early March, the results are expected to be declared by March 13, 2026. Successful candidates will then have a week to complete their enrolment formalities before the new academic session commences on April 1, 2026.
The department has encouraged all interested and eligible candidates to submit their applications through its official online portal. For students and families facing technical difficulties during the online registration process, local welfare offices in every district will provide necessary assistance.
This initiative underscores the state's continued focus on enhancing educational access and providing quality residential schooling for girls from backward class communities, aiming to empower them through academic excellence.
