Vijayawada Police Arrest Five in Connection with Student Suicide at Corporate College

In a significant development, the Penamaluru Police in Vijayawada have registered a formal case and arrested five individuals following the tragic suicide of a student at a corporate college located in Poranki. The arrests include college staff members and a fellow student, who are accused of playing a role in the incident and allegedly tampering with evidence after the fact.

Details of the Tragic Incident

The student, identified as Pawan Kumar, died by suicide on January 30 after hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his hostel room. Police investigations have revealed a disturbing pattern of harassment that may have contributed to this extreme step. According to authorities, Pawan was subjected to repeated harassment by a fellow student named Hemanth.

This harassment reportedly began earlier, with an incident in December 2025 causing disturbances in the hostel. The situation escalated on January 5 when Hemanth allegedly assaulted Pawan and later posted a video of the assault on Instagram. Police state that Hemanth attacked Pawan again on January 30, the same day the student took his own life.

Evidence Tampering Allegations

In a particularly troubling aspect of the case, police discovered that before ending his life, Pawan wrote the names of those he held responsible for his death on his hand. However, investigators allege that the college management attempted to conceal the circumstances surrounding the suicide. Specifically, staff members are accused of erasing the names written on the student's hand, which police have characterized as destruction of evidence.

Arrests Made and Ongoing Investigation

Based on their findings, police have arrested five individuals: college Principal Pichaiyya, hostel in-charge Ravindra, junior lecturers Rajesh Anand and Krishna, and mess worker Hemanth. Authorities have emphasized that the investigation is ongoing to determine full accountability and whether additional action is required. The case highlights serious concerns about student safety and institutional responsibility in educational settings.

The Penamaluru Police continue to pursue all leads in this sensitive matter, underscoring their commitment to justice for the victim and his family. This incident has sparked broader discussions about bullying prevention and proper handling of such tragedies in educational institutions across the region.
