Centre of Excellence Scheme Leads with 19 Projects

Under the prestigious Centre of Excellence (COE) scheme, Lucknow University secured approval for 19 research projects, the highest number among seven participating state universities. The total grant allocation for these initiatives amounts to Rs 2.47 crore, demonstrating substantial financial commitment to advancing research capabilities.

Out of the total approved projects, 13 fall under the Research and Development (R&D) category, highlighting the university's focus on practical applications and technological advancement alongside theoretical exploration.

The approved projects span diverse scientific fields with several notable allocations:

  • Biochemistry: Madhu Kamble from the biochemistry department has received approximately Rs 9.8 lakh for research focused on pest management in stored grains, addressing crucial food security concerns.
  • Zoology: Paramjeet Singh and Tripti Yadav have each been granted Rs 4 lakh for separate studies. Singh's research examines anti-cancer compounds, while Yadav's work explores eco-friendly pest control methods.
  • Chemistry: Sushil Kumar Maurya has received Rs 3 lakh for his research, while Vijay Kumar Rai has been awarded Rs 7 lakh for his chemical studies.
  • Botany and Environmental Science: Multiple projects will investigate pressing environmental issues including heavy metal contamination, air pollution, and water quality. Specific studies will examine aspects related to the Ganga river ecosystem.
  • Advanced Agriculture Research: Ajay Singh has been sanctioned Rs 10.5 lakh to study the application of selenium nanoparticles in reducing heavy metal impact on crops, potentially offering innovative solutions for agricultural challenges.
