Gurugram University to Launch 14 NEP Courses from 2026-27

Gurugram University is set to introduce 14 new courses aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) from the 2026-27 academic session. The decision was announced by the university administration, aiming to provide students with a more flexible and interdisciplinary curriculum.

New Courses Aligned with NEP

The 14 courses span various disciplines, including humanities, sciences, commerce, and vocational studies. These programs are designed to offer multiple entry and exit points, allowing students to earn certificates, diplomas, or degrees based on their duration of study. The NEP-aligned curriculum emphasizes experiential learning, critical thinking, and skill development.

Key Features of the New Programs

  • Interdisciplinary Approach: Students can combine subjects from different fields, such as pairing economics with data science or environmental studies with public policy.
  • Flexible Duration: The courses offer options for one-year certificates, two-year diplomas, and four-year bachelor's degrees with honors.
  • Vocational Integration: Practical training and internships will be embedded in the curriculum to enhance employability.

Implementation Timeline

The university plans to finalize the course structures and syllabi by mid-2025, followed by faculty training and infrastructure upgrades. Admissions for the new programs will begin in early 2026, with classes starting in August 2026.

Impact on Students

These courses are expected to benefit over 5,000 students annually, providing them with modern skills and knowledge relevant to current job markets. The university also aims to collaborate with industries and research institutions to offer hands-on learning opportunities.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar stated, "These NEP-aligned courses will transform the educational landscape of Gurugram, making higher education more accessible, holistic, and career-oriented."

The initiative aligns with the central government's vision to overhaul the education system through NEP 2020, which advocates for multidisciplinary learning and reduced curriculum rigidity.
