Patna: Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary on Wednesday stated that the outward migration of students from Bihar for higher studies, particularly in technical subjects, has nearly ceased as they now receive quality education within the state.
Quality Education and Employment Opportunities
Addressing reporters, Choudhary, who also holds the portfolio of science and technology and technical education, emphasized that students are obtaining quality technical education in state institutions, leading to better employment opportunities.
Cabinet Expansion and Policy Continuity
He announced an impending expansion of the state cabinet to streamline departmental operations. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has decided to continue former CM Nitish Kumar's policies for comprehensive state development.
Measures to Improve Technical Education
Elaborating on government initiatives, the Deputy CM noted that 1,616 regular teachers are currently employed in engineering colleges against 3,406 sanctioned posts. The department has requested the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) to fill 906 vacant teaching posts. Additionally, BPSC has been asked to appoint 273 teachers for vacant positions in government polytechnics. Furthermore, 723 instructors and 1,093 lab assistants will soon be appointed by the Bihar Technical Services Commission.
Centers of Excellence and Increased Demand
Choudhary highlighted that several centers of excellence have been established in engineering institutions, raising educational standards and increasing demand for technical subjects.
Seat Capacity and Course Offerings
For the 2025-26 academic session, the total sanctioned seats in engineering colleges stand at 14,553, while government polytechnics offer 17,243 seats. Postgraduate (M Tech) programs on 612 seats have commenced in 10 government engineering colleges in the 2024-25 session. To meet industry needs, four-year degree courses in 33 disciplines and three-year diploma courses in 26 disciplines are being offered.
Centers of Excellence and Placement
Science and Technology Department Secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh added that high-level centers of excellence in emerging technologies have been established in all polytechnics with support from IIT-Patna under the first phase of the Saat Nischaya program. Work on 33 centers of excellence in the second phase is underway. Digital planetariums, space and astronomy education centers, and multi-dimensional labs are being set up in selected cities. The department is also ensuring suitable placements, with 15,246 students provided jobs between 2015 and 2025.
