1,651 compete in UP Skill Development Mission contest

The stage is set for a major showcase of young talent in Uttar Pradesh as the state government prepares to host a large-scale skill competition. Starting January 12, a total of 1,651 participants selected from across all 75 districts will compete for top honors and a chance to represent the state and country on prestigious platforms.

A Stepping Stone to National and Global Arenas

Organized by the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission (UPSDM), the event is far more than just a contest. It is a critical selection ground for the India Skills Competition–2026. The most outstanding performers from this state-level event will earn the right to represent Uttar Pradesh at the national contest. From there, the ultimate goal is selection for the World Skills Competition, slated to be held in Shanghai, China.

Kapil Dev Agarwal, the Minister of State for Vocational Education, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge), emphasized the government's vision. He stated that the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led administration is focused on building a workforce that is technically skilled, innovative, and globally competitive. He described the competition as a vital platform for identifying and nurturing talent, giving the youth of UP crucial exposure.

Phases, Trades, and Rigorous Evaluation

The competition will be conducted in three phases, concluding on January 23. An awards and certificate distribution ceremony is scheduled for January 24. According to Skill Development Mission Director Pulkit Khare, the first phase will see around 570 participants competing on January 12 and 13.

This initial round will focus on six specific skill trades:

  • Additive Manufacturing
  • Welding
  • Electronics
  • Fashion Technology
  • CNC Milling
  • CNC Turning

The first day will involve technical orientation, insights into the World Skills competition framework, and hands-on training with advanced machinery. The actual competitive assessments will be held on the second day, January 13.

Transparent Process Across Lucknow's Premier Institutes

The first phase will be hosted at multiple technical institutions in the state capital, Lucknow. These venues include ITI Aliganj, ITI Mohanlalganj, ITOT, Raymond Centre, Government Polytechnic, ITI Charbagh, Women’s Polytechnic, and CIPET.

Director Pulkit Khare assured that all participants will be judged through a transparent and rigorous evaluation process. The assessment will be based on multiple criteria including technical proficiency, innovation, creativity, and overall performance. This ensures that only the most deserving talents move forward to compete at higher levels, carrying the hopes of Uttar Pradesh to national and international podiums.
