Southern Railway General Manager R N Singh conducted a comprehensive inspection of developmental works at three major railway stations in Coimbatore on Wednesday, focusing on passenger amenities and infrastructure upgrades.
Station-by-Station Review
The inspection began at Coimbatore Junction railway station around 9:30 am, where GM Singh thoroughly reviewed ongoing passenger facilities and infrastructure development projects. Officials examined the current status of improvements aimed at enhancing traveler experience at this key transportation hub.
Moving forward with his schedule, the GM visited Podanur Junction railway station approximately at 10 am to assess development works being executed under the central government's Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. During this visit, representatives from the Podanur Train Users Association (PTUA) presented him with a formal petition.
Passenger Association Demands
The PTUA submitted several important requests to the General Manager, primarily seeking additional train services from Podanur to southern districts of Tamil Nadu. The association strongly urged for expedited completion of Amrit Bharat Scheme work at Podanur, noting that while funds had been allocated earlier, the actual work implementation remained pending.
Association members expressed their satisfaction regarding the recent tender for establishing a pit line at Podanur station, acknowledging this as a positive step toward improving maintenance facilities and potentially increasing train operations from their station.
Official Delegation and Final Inspection
The inspection team included Salem divisional railway manager Panna Lal and Gati Shakti chief project manager N Ganga Raju, along with other senior railway officials who accompanied GM Singh throughout the review process.
The final leg of the inspection took place at Coimbatore North Junction railway station, where the delegation examined ongoing development initiatives. The coordinated inspection across multiple stations demonstrates Southern Railway's focused approach toward upgrading Coimbatore's railway infrastructure to meet growing passenger demands and improve service quality throughout the region.
