The Hartford Launches First Global Technology Centre in Hyderabad, India
HYDERABAD: In a significant move for the Indian technology landscape, US-based insurance giant The Hartford officially opened its inaugural global technology centre in India on Monday. This expansive facility, covering 1.6 lakh square feet in Hyderabad's bustling Financial District, is poised to become a cornerstone of the company's technological advancement, with plans to scale up to nearly 1,200 employees in the coming years.
A Hub for AI and Digital Transformation
The 200-year-old American insurer emphasized that the Hyderabad Global Capability Centre (GCC) will be instrumental in driving its enterprise-wide technology transformation. The centre will concentrate on cutting-edge areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), digital innovation, and engineering excellence. Designed to foster a start-up-like environment, it aims to prioritize rapid prototyping and agile development methodologies, facilitating seamless collaboration across time zones with The Hartford's existing technology hubs in Hartford, Charlotte, Chicago, and Columbus.
Hyderabad's Growing Appeal for Global Firms
During the inauguration ceremony, Sridhar Babu highlighted that The Hartford's decision to establish its centre in Hyderabad aligns with a broader trend observed among multinational corporations. He pointed to notable examples such as Microsoft's first major development centre outside the United States, Google's largest campus beyond Mountain View, and recent global capability centres launched by industry leaders like McDonald's, Vanguard, Dai-ichi Life, and Marriott International. "In Hyderabad, we measure our success by the impact we help global institutions create, and we welcome The Hartford as a partner in building the next chapter of digital innovation," Babu stated.
The minister also toured the new facility and engaged with The Hartford's leadership team, which included President Morris Tooker, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer Claire Burns, Chief Information Officer Shekar Pannala, Managing Director and Head of Hartford India Surya Thammiraju, Chief Technology Officer Imran Malik, and Chief Human Resources Officer Lori Rodden.

Chief Information Officer Shekar Pannala underscored the centre's strategic importance, noting that it will enhance the company's digital and AI capabilities while acting as a magnet for top engineering talent in India. "By building our world-class workforce with this technology centre in Hyderabad, we are not only creating new digital and AI capabilities but also shaping the future of insurance technology," Pannala explained. This initiative reflects The Hartford's commitment to leveraging India's robust tech ecosystem to drive innovation and maintain a competitive edge in the global insurance sector.
