Lucknow Development Authority Greenlights Major City Transformation
Residents of Lucknow can look forward to a greener, more vibrant urban environment soon. The Lucknow Development Authority has given its official nod to a comprehensive package of development and beautification works. These projects carry a total estimated cost of nearly Rs 195 crore and will touch various neighborhoods across the city.
Key Projects to Watch
The approved plans feature a diverse mix of recreational, educational, and civic upgrades. A significant highlight is the creation of a new aviary at the Gomti Biodiversity Park in Gomtinagar. This facility will spread over one acre of land with a budget of Rs 10 crore. Officials plan to carefully select trees and plants to mimic the natural habitats of different bird species. This approach aims to let visitors observe birds in a setting that feels close to nature.
Another notable project is the Constitution Park, slated for construction near the high court. It will occupy 2,500 square metres of green belt with an estimated cost of Rs 6 crore. The park's design will include elements like the Ashoka Pillar, panel walls, an Indian map, and a parliament-shaped structure. Its primary goal is to foster public awareness about the Indian Constitution through these visual features and landscaped areas.
New Recreational Spaces Across the City
The city will see several new parks and recreational zones emerge in different localities. These spaces are designed to offer residents more options for sports, leisure activities, and family outings.
- A mini sports area near the Gwari flyover in Gomtinagar, costing Rs 8 crore, will provide facilities for outdoor games and physical activities.
- The Lotus Park, with an outlay of Rs 8.5 crore, will feature landscaped green spaces and dedicated relaxation areas for the public.
- Along the Gomti riverfront, a Wonder Park is planned mainly for children. Built at a cost of Rs 6 crore, it will include interactive and play-based attractions to encourage both learning and recreation.
- In Arjunganj, Pandav Park will be developed with an investment of Rs 5 crore. Themed around characters from the Mahabharata, it will showcase sculptures, murals, and design elements depicting the Pandavas, blending recreation with cultural awareness.
- An Insectopedia Park will be set up at the Eco-Garden in the Kanpur Road scheme area under a public-private partnership. Costing around Rs 13 crore, it will feature a jungle trail and large-scale representations of insects, offering an educational experience especially for children.
Focus on Fitness and Civic Infrastructure
Public health and fitness receive a strong emphasis in the new plans. Financial approval has been granted for installing 250 open gyms in parks across Lucknow. This initiative aims to make fitness facilities more accessible to residents.
Simultaneously, the city plans to strengthen street lighting at major intersections and important roads. This upgrade is expected to improve safety and visibility, particularly during night hours.
Civic improvement works form another crucial part of the package. The Supa Lake in Aishbagh will undergo rejuvenation and beautification at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore. Work will include the construction of boundary walls, pathways, horticulture development, and cleaning efforts.
In Faizullaganj, authorities will construct a road and a nearly 1.5 km-long drain to improve local drainage. Divisional commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant has directed officials to pay special attention to leveling these drains. He also emphasized ensuring that final connections for the disposal of drain water are properly in place.
Approval Process and Funding
The approvals were granted during a meeting of the Infrastructure Development Fund held on Friday. Divisional commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant chaired this important session. Attendees included LDA vice-chairman Prathamesh Kumar, municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar, along with various senior officials and engineers.
Funds from the Infrastructure Development Fund have also been approved for additional projects. These include the development of Urmila Van and for horticulture-related works in various green belts of Aliganj. The comprehensive nature of these approvals signals a significant step forward in enhancing Lucknow's urban landscape and quality of life for its residents.
