Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway Set to Open with Detailed Toll Structure and Commuter Benefits
The much-anticipated Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway is poised to open for vehicular traffic, marking a significant infrastructure milestone in Uttar Pradesh. This 63-kilometer, six-lane corridor is designed to facilitate high-speed travel between the two major cities, with toll rates now officially announced by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
Toll Rates and Return Journey Incentives
Car owners utilizing the expressway will be required to pay a toll of Rs 275 for a one-way journey across the entire stretch. In a move aimed at encouraging round trips, the NHAI has introduced a special rate of Rs 415 for a return journey completed within 24 hours. This pricing strategy is expected to benefit daily commuters and short-term travelers alike.
Annual Pass for Frequent Commuters
To make travel more affordable for regular users, the NHAI will offer an annual pass service priced at Rs 3,075. This pass is designed to provide substantial savings, allowing vehicle owners to make 100 round trips or 200 toll crossings through the same plaza within a year from issuance. Officials have clarified that the annual pass will also be valid on other national highways in the region, further enhancing its value for frequent commuters on the broader highway network.
Vehicle Restrictions and High-Speed Design
In line with its access-controlled design, two-wheelers and three-wheelers will not be permitted on the expressway. This restriction is implemented to ensure safety and maintain the high-speed flow of traffic. The corridor has been engineered for speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour, positioning it as a premier high-speed transport route that promises to reduce travel time significantly between Lucknow and Kanpur.
Project Details and Connectivity
The expressway project carries an estimated cost of around Rs 3,700 crore, with Rs 3,000 crore allocated to civil construction works and the remainder utilized for private land acquisition. It originates from Miranpur Pinvat village in Sarojini Nagar and terminates at Kader Patari village in Unnao. A key connectivity feature is its link to the existing Lucknow-Kanpur National Highway at a point 5.5 kilometers ahead of the Jajmau Ganga bridge, which is expected to improve regional connectivity and ease traffic congestion.
Readiness and Awaiting Official Announcement
The expressway is fully prepared to handle traffic, with all necessary infrastructure in place. Officials are currently awaiting directions from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to finalize and announce the official opening date.
