Gurgaon Authorities Execute Major Anti-Encroachment Drive to Widen Critical Road Link
In a significant move to address persistent traffic issues, authorities in Gurgaon have successfully completed a five-day demolition drive targeting illegal encroachments along a 1.5-kilometer stretch of the Farrukhnagar–Daboda road. This corridor serves as a vital connection to the KMP Expressway, and the operation aimed to reclaim the road's sanctioned width of 60–66 feet, which had been reduced to as narrow as 35–40 feet in some areas due to unauthorized constructions.
Comprehensive Operation Involves Multiple Agencies and Advanced Planning
Led by Duty Magistrate RS Batth, the drive was conducted over eight to nine hours daily, concluding on Tuesday. Officials emphasized that the initiative followed meticulous groundwork, including demarcation by the revenue department and extensive outreach efforts to shopkeepers and residents to ensure cooperation. Nearly 100 structures were dismantled, comprising nine three- to four-storey buildings and approximately 30 double-storey constructions. In many instances, property owners voluntarily dismantled portions of their buildings and cleared materials, with some utilizing heavy cutter machines to speed up the process.
The operation saw the deployment of over 100 police personnel, including the Station House Officer of Farrukhnagar, alongside teams from the civic body, revenue department, fire brigade, ambulance services, and depot authorities. Equipment such as two JCBs and a poclain machine were employed to facilitate the demolitions. Key officials, including Farrukhnagar Civic Secretary Rajesh Sharma and a municipal team of around 20 staff members, remained present throughout the drive to oversee proceedings.
Positive Community Response and Future Redevelopment Plans
Despite initial apprehensions from some shopkeepers, the drive proceeded without any reported protests. Several residents later expressed support for the action, calling for similar measures in other congested areas of the region. Authorities highlighted that the stretch is crucial for connectivity to surrounding villages and townships, and the removal of encroachments has reclaimed approximately 35 feet of additional width, significantly easing traffic congestion and safety concerns.
Looking ahead, the Farrukhnagar civic body has announced plans to redevelop the stretch at an estimated cost of Rs 7 crore over the next ten months. The redevelopment project will include improved carriageways, footpaths, green verges, and drainage systems, all designed to enhance traffic flow and overall connectivity. Officials view this drive as a model for future anti-encroachment initiatives in Gurgaon and beyond, setting a precedent for addressing urban infrastructure challenges through coordinated efforts.
