The industrial city of Jamshedpur has embarked on a significant infrastructure project with the commencement of work on a major bridge across the Subarnarekha river. The construction, which started on Thursday, aims to create a vital link between Litti Chowk in Bhuiyadih and Bhilaipahari in the Mango area.
A Long-Awaited Connectivity Solution
This four-lane bridge, stretching 4 kilometers in length, is designed to integrate seamlessly with NH-33. Officials highlight that its primary purpose is to decongest the heavily trafficked Bhuiyadih-Agrico Road and significantly improve safety by reducing accidents, many of which are caused by the movement of heavy vehicles. The project represents a direct response to the perennial issues of traffic snarls and road safety concerns faced by residents.
Project Details and Financial Outlay
The ambitious project carries a total estimated cost of Rs 77 crore. A detailed breakdown of this investment reveals that Rs 39 crore has been allocated specifically for the construction work. The remaining funds, amounting to Rs 38 crore, are earmarked for the necessary process of land acquisition. According to the authorities, the entire work is scheduled for completion within a timeframe of 18 months.
Political Journey and Inauguration
The bridge's journey to the construction phase has seen involvement from different political administrations. Jamshedpur (East) MLA Purnima Das pointed out that the project was originally conceived and approved during the tenure of the Raghubar Das government in 2019. However, its execution faced delays under successive governments. The foundation stone for the project was laid virtually by Chief Minister Hemant Soren in October of last year, setting the stage for the physical work that has now begun.
Local leaders and officials express strong confidence that upon completion, this new bridge will serve as a crucial artery for the region. It is expected not only to streamline daily commutes for thousands but also to act as a catalyst for attracting further investment and development to the area, enhancing Jamshedpur's urban infrastructure and economic potential.
