YEIDA and JETRO Hold Talks on Japanese City Project Along Yamuna Expressway

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority held a crucial meeting with the Japan External Trade Organisation on Friday. This meeting aimed to explore investment opportunities tied to the proposed Japanese City along the Yamuna Expressway.

Focus on Attracting Japanese Investment

Officials stated that discussions centered on drawing Japanese companies to the region. They planned to identify sector-specific investment potential. The talks also outlined a development roadmap for the planned industrial and residential hub.

According to officials, the proposed city will spread over approximately 395 hectares. It is located in Sector 5A of Yamuna City, positioned close to the upcoming Noida International Airport.

Key Participants and Objectives

YEIDA CEO RK Singh chaired the meeting alongside Suzuki Takashi, the chief director general of JETRO India. The primary focus was building sustained institutional engagement with Japanese investors.

YEIDA officials explained that the engagement seeks to leverage the region's multimodal connectivity. This connectivity is anchored by the airport and expanding road and logistics networks. The goal is to attract both large Japanese manufacturing corporations and small and medium enterprises.

Showcasing Broader Investment Opportunities

Beyond the Japanese city, the authority highlighted investment opportunities in several upcoming sector-focused projects. These include the Medical Devices Park, Film City, textile and apparel parks, and an electronics manufacturing cluster.

Noting that about 1,400 Japanese MSMEs are currently registered with JETRO, YEIDA CEO RK Singh proposed developing an exclusive Japanese MSME Park. This park would cater to smaller firms seeking plug-and-play industrial infrastructure within YEIDA's jurisdiction.

Detailed Blueprint and Strategic Positioning

YEIDA additional CEO Shailendra Bhatia said the authority presented a detailed blueprint of the Japanese City during the meeting. Discussions also covered potential investment avenues with Japanese entrepreneurs.

Bhatia emphasized YEIDA's objective to position the Yamuna Expressway region as a preferred destination for Japanese companies. These companies are looking to expand their footprint in India.

Strong Interest from Japanese Delegation

Suzuki Takashi and the JETRO delegation expressed strong interest in the proposal. They described the site as well suited for expansion due to its connectivity, scale, and long-term growth potential.

The delegation noted that several Japanese companies already present in India are actively scouting for new locations. They are particularly interested in northern India for their next phase of investment.

Moving Towards Formal Cooperation

Both sides discussed the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding. This MoU would institutionalize cooperation and provide a structured framework for facilitating Japanese investments in Uttar Pradesh.
