In a significant move to accelerate India's electric vehicle (EV) revolution, V-GREEN, the charging arm of Vietnamese automaker VinFast, has forged a strategic partnership with state-owned fuel giant Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL). The collaboration aims to rapidly expand EV charging facilities at select fuel stations nationwide.
Leveraging a Vast Network for Faster Rollout
The core of this partnership lies in utilizing HPCL's extensive retail footprint. With over 24,400 fuel stations across India, HPCL provides a ready-made and strategically located platform for deploying charging points. This existing infrastructure is expected to drastically reduce deployment lead times and ensure wider geographic coverage, making EV charging more convenient and accessible for users.
HPCL is not new to the EV space. Under its HP e-Charge initiative, it already operates more than 5,300 EV charging points. The tie-up with V-GREEN is poised to supercharge this existing network, adding more capacity and advanced charging solutions.
A Strategic Move for India's Clean Transport Goals
This partnership arrives at a crucial juncture as India intensifies its push towards cleaner transportation and reduced dependence on conventional fuels. HPCL's nationwide presence is seen as a key asset in mitigating range anxiety—a major barrier to EV adoption—by ensuring charging points are available along major routes and in urban centers.
For V-GREEN, this marks a pivotal step in its global strategy. The company, headquartered in Vietnam, was established by VinFast founder Pham Nhat Vuong with a focus on building large-scale charging networks to support VinFast's international ambitions. India is viewed as a priority market in this expansion plan.
Building a Comprehensive EV Ecosystem
The HPCL deal is more than just about installing chargers; it's part of a broader blueprint by V-GREEN and VinFast to establish a full-fledged EV ecosystem in India. This long-term vision encompasses:
- Vehicle manufacturing and sales
- Widespread charging infrastructure
- Robust after-sales support
- Battery recycling solutions
V-GREEN brings proven expertise to the table, having demonstrated its capabilities in its home market. In Vietnam, the company manages a network of nearly 150,000 charging ports and has grown through similar collaborations with multiple partners.
By combining HPCL's unparalleled distribution reach with V-GREEN's technical specialization, this initiative is set to contribute meaningfully to the adoption of electric mobility. It promises to support the development of sustainable transport solutions in one of the world's largest and most dynamic automotive markets.
