India's two-wheeler market achieved a significant milestone in 2025. Sales crossed the two crore mark, according to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam). This represents a rise of about 5% from around 1.9 crore units sold in 2024.
Exports Reach Record Levels
Exports showed remarkable growth, jumping 24.2% in 2025 to a record 49.4 lakh units. This surge was supported by a recovery in African markets and steady demand from South Asia. An industry-wide recovery in motorcycle demand also played a key role.
Hero MotoCorp Maintains Leadership
Hero MotoCorp remained the largest two-wheeler seller in India. Its sales increased by 2% to 57.5 lakh units in 2025. However, the sharpest growth came from TVS Motor Company. TVS sales jumped 15.7% to 39.8 lakh units during the same period.
Urban Markets Drive Growth
While demand improved across both urban and rural markets, growth was led mainly by cities. This trend was reflected in faster expansion in scooter sales compared with motorcycles. A strong festive season added momentum to sales, especially in urban areas.
Policy Support Boosts Affordability
Several factors aided the sales of two-wheelers in 2025. These included GST 2.0, income tax relief, and repo rate cuts. These measures improved affordability and lifted household spending throughout the year.
Industry Outlook for 2026
Looking ahead, the industry expects the positive momentum to continue well into 2026. Stable macro-economic conditions, improving affordability, and continued policy support are seen as key drivers. Siam president Shailesh Chandra highlighted the industry's focus on monitoring geopolitical developments. This will help ensure resilience in the supply chain and maintain export volumes.
It is worth noting that despite the growth, sales volumes in 2025 remained below the record peak of 2.1 crore units achieved in 2018. The industry continues to work towards surpassing that milestone in the coming years.
