Rajhara Coal Mine Resumes Operations in Daltonganj After 14 Years
Union Minister of State for Coal Satish Chandra Dubey formally reopened the Rajhara open cast coal mine in Daltonganj on Saturday. This event marks a significant milestone for the region's mining sector.
End of a Long Hiatus
The Rajhara mine, owned by Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), had remained inactive since 2010. Flooding caused the mine to become inundated, forcing operations to halt completely.
Partial mining activities resumed in 2015 after the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) granted approval. However, this came with strict conditions. Mining had to stop during the monsoon months each year.
With Saturday's reopening, officials confirmed the open cast mine will now operate normally throughout the year. This development ends a fourteen-year period of limited or no production.
Mine Capacity and Stock Details
Rajhara colliery holds an impressive stock of 4.9 million tonnes of non-coking coal. The mine boasts a production capacity of 0.3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
It has received consent to operate until March of this year. This authorization allows for continuous mining activities without seasonal interruptions.

Following the inauguration ceremony, Minister Dubey shared his perspective on India's energy future. He emphasized the government's efforts to balance fossil fuel usage with green energy initiatives.
