Bagalkot: Former minister Murugesh Nirani on Tuesday warned that his company may opt for other states for investment after the state government rejected its proposal for an aviation fuel production plant worth Rs 5,700 crore.
Speaking to reporters here, Nirani said the Nirani Group, of which he is chairman, had proposed an aviation fuel unit of Rs 3,200 crore and bioplastic units worth Rs 2,500 crore. Both are agriculture-based projects. “We neither sought land nor electricity for the units but assured thousands of jobs. However, the government rejected both proposals without citing any reason,” he said.
He added that the project has a partnership with a Japanese firm. “The Maharashtra chief minister has offered a 50% subsidy, while Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu has proposed 400 acres of land at Rs 10 lakh per acre. We can also consider Bihar, where we have a sugar factory. Our company is the largest ethanol producer in Asia. Despite this profile, our proposal has been set aside,” he said.
Nirani alleged that while the state government invited foreign investors to the Global Investors’ Meet, it was discouraging local investors without any reason.
