Mumbai Airport Sees 55.5 Million Passengers in 2025, Sets New Records
Mumbai Airport 2025 Traffic: 55.5 Million Passengers

Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has reported a significant surge in passenger traffic for the calendar year 2025, solidifying its position as one of India's busiest aviation hubs. According to data released by Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) on Thursday, the airport facilitated travel for 55.5 million passengers throughout the year.

Steady Growth in Passenger Numbers

This impressive figure represents an increase from the 54.8 million passengers handled in 2024. The data reveals a year-on-year growth of 1.3% and a more substantial 7.6% rise compared to the 2023 traffic. A detailed breakdown shows that international travel contributed significantly, with over 16 million passengers, while domestic travel remained the dominant force with nearly 39 million passengers.

The year 2025 saw notable peaks in monthly traffic. January emerged as the busiest month, processing close to 5 million passengers. It was followed closely by November, which saw approximately 4.9 million passengers. The airport achieved a monumental milestone on November 29, 2025, recording its highest-ever single-day passenger count of 1,75,925 individuals.

Operational Milestones and Expanded Connectivity

On the operational front, the airport managed a total of 3.31 lakh air traffic movements (ATMs) over the year. A single-day record was also set on November 21, with 1,036 ATMs. The period from October to December stood out as the strongest quarter, with a whopping 14.36 million passengers served.

A key driver behind this growth has been the strategic expansion of the airport's network. CSMIA enhanced its global reach by introducing new international routes to destinations including Manchester, Copenhagen, and Almaty. This was complemented by the addition of several domestic services, providing greater connectivity within India and catering to the rising demand for air travel.

What This Means for Indian Aviation

The consistent growth in passenger numbers at Mumbai airport is a strong indicator of the robust recovery and expansion of the Indian aviation sector post-pandemic. The record-breaking single-day and monthly figures highlight the airport's operational efficiency in managing high-density traffic. The expansion into new international markets not only boosts tourism and business travel but also positions Mumbai as a more prominent gateway connecting India to Europe and Central Asia.

This upward trend is expected to continue, putting focus on infrastructure development and service enhancements to accommodate future growth. The performance of CSMIA in 2025 sets a positive precedent for the industry, reflecting increased mobility and economic activity in the region.
