Mahindra & Mahindra has officially unveiled the Mahindra XUV 7XO in the Indian market, marking a significant evolution of its popular XUV 700 SUV. The new model, which adopts the brand's updated 'XO' naming strategy, enters the competitive arena with a starting price of Rs 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
Launch Timeline and Key Dates
Prospective buyers can get a firsthand experience of the SUV soon, as test drives are scheduled to begin from January 8. The booking window for the XUV 7XO will officially open on January 14, 2025. Mahindra has outlined a phased delivery plan. Customers who had pre-registered for the higher AX7, AX7T, and AX7L variants will be the first to receive their vehicles starting from the booking date itself. Meanwhile, deliveries for the more accessible AX, AX3, and AX5 trims are slated to commence much later, in April 2026.
Design and Styling Overhaul
While the SUV's fundamental silhouette is carried over from the XUV 700, the XUV 7XO receives a comprehensive design makeover. The front fascia is dominated by a redesigned grille and new C-shaped LED headlamps, complemented by distinctive 7-shaped LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) that wrap around the clusters. The design language appears inspired by the brand's recent electric offering, the XEV 9S.
From the side, the profile is familiar but gets a refresh with newly styled alloy wheels. At the rear, a full-width LED light bar and a reshaped bumper give the SUV a modern and wider stance.
Premium Cabin and Tech-First Interior
Step inside, and the XUV 7XO's cabin reveals a significant leap in luxury and technology, again drawing cues from the XEV 9S. A sophisticated beige-tan colour scheme sets the tone. The centrepiece is a triple-screen setup offered as standard, comprising a fully digital driver's display, a central touchscreen for infotainment, and a dedicated screen for the front passenger.
The interior also introduces a fresh two-spoke steering wheel and a reworked centre console that replaces physical climate control buttons with a sleek touch-based interface.
Feature-Packed Offering
Mahindra has loaded the XUV 7XO with a host of premium features to justify its positioning. The extensive list includes:
- 6-way powered and ventilated front seats
- Ventilated seats for rear passengers
- Multi-colour ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof
- Dual wireless chargers
- Boss Mode for the front passenger seat
- A premium 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos
- Dual-zone climate control
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
On the safety front, the SUV is equipped with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), a 540-degree surround-view camera, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, and multiple airbags. Other notable safety features include hill descent control, hill hold assist, and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
Powertrain and Mechanicals
Under the hood, the Mahindra XUV 7XO retains the proven powertrain options from its predecessor. Buyers can choose between the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engines. Transmission duties are handled by either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque-converter automatic. The diesel variant also continues to offer an All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) configuration for enhanced capability.
The launch of the XUV 7XO strengthens Mahindra's portfolio in the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment, offering existing XUV 700 fans a more technologically advanced and stylish package while attracting new buyers with its premium appeal.
