India's December 2025 PV Sales: Maruti on Top, EVs Shine

The Indian passenger vehicle industry concluded the calendar year 2025 with significant momentum, as most major automakers reported positive sales figures for the month of December. The data highlights a clear market leader while showcasing steady expansion across several key brands, setting an optimistic tone for the year ahead.

Market Leaders and Volume Performance

Once again, Maruti Suzuki India demonstrated its dominant position in the market. The company reported total sales of 2,17,854 units in December 2025. A closer look reveals that domestic sales formed the bulk at 1,82,165 units, while exports accounted for 25,739 units. An additional 9,950 units were sold to other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

Following Maruti, Hyundai Motor India reported total sales of 58,702 units, marking a healthy year-on-year increase of 6.6 percent. The company's domestic sales stood at 42,416 units, and its export numbers showed impressive growth of 26.5 percent, reaching 16,286 units.

Robust Growth from Key Domestic Players

The month was particularly strong for utility vehicle specialist Mahindra & Mahindra. The automaker's domestic passenger vehicle sales surged by 23 percent year-on-year to reach 50,946 units. This performance underscores the continued consumer demand for Mahindra's portfolio of sports utility vehicles (SUVs).

Tata Motors also posted a solid performance in the passenger vehicles segment. The company sold a total of 50,519 units in December 2025, which is a 14.1 percent increase compared to the same month in the previous year. A standout feature of Tata's sales was its electric vehicle (EV) business, where volumes jumped sharply by 24.2 percent to 6,906 units, reinforcing its stronghold in India's evolving electric mobility space.

Notable Performances and Year-End Highs

Other manufacturers contributed to the sector's positive closing for the year. Toyota Kirloskar Motor recorded a substantial 33 percent year-on-year growth, with total sales reaching 39,333 units. Of these, 34,157 units were domestic sales, and 5,176 units were exported.

Kia India celebrated its best-ever December since entering the Indian market, selling 18,659 units. This figure represents a remarkable achievement, more than doubling the company's sales volume compared to December 2024. Meanwhile, MG Motor India rounded off the list with wholesale dispatches of 6,500 units for the month.

The collective sales data from December 2025 paints a picture of a resilient and growing automotive market in India. With strong year-end numbers from volume leaders and impressive growth trajectories from others, especially in the SUV and EV segments, the industry appears poised for an interesting journey into 2026.
