The Adani Group is embarking on a significant expansion of its cement manufacturing capabilities in central India, with its cement arm committing substantial investments for two new grinding units in Madhya Pradesh. This strategic move strengthens the conglomerate's presence in a key market and underscores its aggressive growth strategy in the infrastructure sector.
Major Investments in Guna and Ujjain
The group's cement business, which includes the brands Ambuja Cements and ACC, has secured a major foothold in Guna district. Land has been officially allotted for a grinding unit here, involving a hefty investment of Rs 1,500 crore. This facility is designed with a production capacity of 6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
In a parallel development, Adani Cement has submitted a formal proposal to the Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC) for a second grinding unit in the Ujjain district. This project carries a proposed investment outlay of Rs 1,400 crore. The company has requested approximately 70 acres of land for this unit, which is also planned to have a capacity of around 6 MTPA.
Job Creation and Strategic Footprint
The economic impact of these projects is substantial. Each of the two grinding units is expected to create significant employment opportunities in the region. Each unit will generate around 300 direct jobs and nearly 1,200 indirect employment opportunities. Cumulatively, the two projects promise to create over 3,000 jobs, providing a major boost to the local economy.
Chandramauli Shukla, the Managing Director of MPIDC, confirmed the developments. He stated that the Adani Group had initially explored four potential locations in the state, prioritizing sites closer to railway lines for logistical efficiency. "Land has been allotted at Guna, and another location where the application has been submitted for land allotment is Ujjain. Bhopal and Rewa are also being explored, but those locations are yet to be finalised," Shukla explained.
Consolidating Presence in Central India
This expansion is not Adani Cement's first foray into Madhya Pradesh. The group already has an operational base in the state through ACC's integrated cement plant located at Kymore in the Katni district. The new grinding units in Guna and Ujjain will significantly augment this existing capacity and distribution network.
Beyond cement, the Adani Group has built a diverse and sizable investment portfolio in Madhya Pradesh across several core sectors. These include:
- Thermal power projects in Anuppur and Pench.
- A defence manufacturing facility for small arms in Gwalior.
- Substantial infrastructure-linked investments in energy and logistics.
This multi-sectoral approach firmly establishes Madhya Pradesh as a pivotal hub in the Adani Group's strategy for central India, linking industrial growth with regional development.
