2026 India Car Launches: Kia Seltos, Mahindra XUV 7XO, e-Vitara

The Indian automotive landscape is gearing up for a thrilling transformation in 2026. Following what promises to be an eventful 2025, the next year is set to raise the bar with a series of high-profile passenger vehicle launches. Several major carmakers have already locked in their debut dates, ensuring the new year kicks off with a bang for automobile enthusiasts across the nation.

A Packed January Kicks Off the Automotive Year

The action begins immediately in January 2026. Kia will be the first off the block, announcing prices for its facelifted Seltos SUV on January 2. This updated model boasts a comprehensive redesign with a new front fascia featuring revised LED DRLs and headlamps, a refreshed rear with new taillights, and significant side profile changes including flush door handles. The new Seltos is also larger, aiming to offer more cabin space and a stronger road presence, complemented by a revamped interior with enhanced digital surfaces.

Hot on its heels, Mahindra will launch the XUV 7XO on January 5. This model is a revamped and rebadged version of the popular XUV700, drawing significant design and feature inspiration from the brand's electric offering, the XEV 9S. While it is expected to retain the current model's engine, the XUV 7XO will sport a distinctive design tailored for an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle, alongside a feature-rich cabin similar to its electric sibling.

Adding to the January frenzy, Renault will mark Republic Day with the debut of the new-generation Duster on January 26. This launch marks the return of an iconic nameplate after a hiatus. The new Duster adopts a bolder, more muscular contemporary design from Renault and is set to be a milestone as the brand's first model in India to feature Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Power will likely come from a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with either a six-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox.

Electric Revolution Gathers Momentum

2026 will also be a pivotal year for electrification, with two highly anticipated EVs entering the market. Maruti Suzuki's first electric car, the e-Vitara, is slated for a January 2026 launch. Its design, already unveiled, follows a simple and functional philosophy. The cabin is packed with features like ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, a heads-up display (HUD), and wireless charging. Buyers will have a choice between two battery packs – 48.8 kWh and 61.1 kWh – with the latter promising a range of up to 500 kilometers on a single charge.

Similarly, Tata Motors is set to launch the Sierra EV in the first half of 2026 (H1 2026). This electric iteration will revive another legendary nameplate, closely following the design of the recently launched Sierra. It will be built on Tata's new Acti.ev+ platform, which also underpins the Harrier EV. The Sierra EV is expected to offer two battery options, deliver around 500 km of range, and may even include an all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant.

What This Means for Indian Car Buyers

The confirmed lineup for early 2026 signals an intense phase of competition and innovation in the Indian auto sector. Consumers can look forward to a diverse mix of refreshed popular SUVs, the return of beloved models, and significant strides in electric mobility from mainstream giants. This influx of new models, packed with advanced technology, safety features like ADAS, and bold new designs, will provide buyers with more choice than ever, setting the tone for an exciting automotive year ahead.
