The Income Tax Department on Sunday concluded a significant multi-day search and seizure operation targeting business groups associated with the well-known Kanha Restaurant based in Jaipur. This extensive investigation spanned a total of 37 locations across Rajasthan, Mumbai, and other cities, marking a substantial crackdown on alleged financial irregularities.
Unaccounted Assets Worth Rs 7.75 Crore Seized
Officials confirmed that unaccounted assets valued at Rs 7.75 crore were seized during the raids. This substantial haul included gold jewellery worth Rs 7.5 crore and cash amounting to Rs 25 lakh. The operation, which commenced early Wednesday, initially covered 33 premises but was later expanded to include two additional locations as the investigation progressed, highlighting the department's thorough approach.
Wide-Ranging Searches Across Popular Food Establishments
The searches focused on operators and business associates of several prominent food establishments in Rajasthan. Key targets included:
- Kanha Restaurant and Yo China in Jaipur
- The Sierra and Sun & Moon in Udaipur
- Ye Hai Jalwa in Kota
- Chawla's-2 in Sriganganagar
An officer involved in the operation stated, "We seized gold worth Rs 7.5 crore and Rs 25 lakh in cash," underscoring the scale of the findings. This action reflects ongoing efforts by tax authorities to combat undisclosed income and ensure compliance within the business sector, particularly in the hospitality industry.
