In a major crackdown on tax defaulters, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) on Tuesday sealed seven commercial and residential properties across the city. The action was taken after the owners repeatedly failed to clear outstanding property tax dues totalling a significant Rs 1.8 crore, despite receiving multiple notices from the civic body.
Major Sealing Drive Across Key Localities
The enforcement operation was spearheaded by Zonal Taxation Officer Pankaj Kumar, alongside Tax Inspector Pankaj Saluja and their team. The drive targeted defaulters in several prominent areas, with officials providing a detailed breakdown of the major dues. In Kherki Daula, two properties were sealed for outstanding amounts of Rs 30,82,747 and Rs 19,72,508 respectively.
Similarly, in Mohammadpur Jharsa, two more properties were sealed for pending taxes of Rs 27,35,536 and Rs 22,65,126. The crackdown extended to Narsinghpur, where a property owed Rs 14,04,967, and to Pace City-1, where another was sealed for dues of Rs 18,17,872. The single largest action of the day was in Palam Vihar, where a property with pending dues of approximately Rs 52 lakh was sealed.
Strict Action to Ensure Civic Amenities: Commissioner's Warning
MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya emphasized the critical importance of property tax for the city's functioning. He stated that property tax is the primary source of income for the MCG, directly funding essential services like cleanliness, road maintenance, sewer systems, and water supply. Dahiya issued a stern warning, declaring that "strict action like sealing will continue against defaulters who do not deposit tax despite repeated notices."
He appealed to all property owners to settle their outstanding taxes promptly to avoid punitive measures. Dahiya also revealed that the corporation plans to intensify its campaign against tax defaulters in the coming days. The drive proved highly effective, resulting in an impressive collection of Rs 7 crore in a single day. So far in the current financial year, MCG has collected Rs 285 crore in property tax, with officials expecting the figure to rise further by March 2026 as enforcement actions persist.
Leveraging Technology for Enhanced Tax Recovery
In a modern push to improve revenue collection, the MCG, along with the Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM), has introduced Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. This innovative system is being used to identify residents with outstanding dues more efficiently. The AI platform helps officials approach defaulters, resolve their queries, and assist them in clearing pending taxes, marking a significant shift towards tech-driven governance.
The combined strategy of stringent on-ground action and advanced technological tools underscores the civic body's commitment to ensuring all citizens contribute their fair share towards maintaining and developing Gurugram's infrastructure.
